Weekend Beekeeping Course in Surrey

Our weekend beekeeping course is designed for those who are truly passionate about apiculture. You’ll immerse yourself in both classroom learning and hands-on activities that equip you with essential insights about bee biology, hive management, and seasonal care.

Over the course of two days, you will engage in enlightening discussions and practical demonstrations that will help you understand the behaviors of bees and how to create a thriving environment for them. You’ll learn essential techniques for hive maintenance and gain confidence in managing your bees safely.

Not only will you leave with the knowledge to start your own beekeeping journey, but you’ll also gain access to continued support through our free ongoing workshops. Join a community of fellow bee enthusiasts and ensure that your beekeeping experience is fulfilling and successful.

What's Included

• A two day intensive beekeeping experience
• Learn all about how to keep bees, what equipment is needed and gain all the information you need about hives and bees
• Spend the morning learning the theory of beekeeping
• Enjoy hands-on practical sessions in the afternoon in the apiary inspecting the hives
• A free framemaking workshop which takes place on a different date to the weekend experience
• 70 page training pack

• Full bee suit and and hive tool to take home
• Access to free sessions and workshops
• Once you've completed your course you'll become a member of a 250-beekeeper group which provides continued support and all important insurance cover

Theory Session:

• Biology and life cycle of the honeybee
• Understanding how the colony works, bee health and what to look out for when opening a hive
• Castes and their roles in the colony
• Beekeeping year
• Swarm management
• Pest and disease management
• Products from the hive

Practical Sessions:

• Hands-on session with the bees, working with a colony and looking at frames of brood and stores
• Beekeeping equipment including hives, bees and equipment for sale on site
• Time for questions and opportunity to order a starter pack at the end of the session

When Is It Available

• Courses available on two selected weekends only
• 26th and 27th April 2025 at the Wisely apiary (free frame workshop on 5th April)
• 7th and 8th June 2025 at the Farnham apiary (free frame workshop on 17th May)
• Please note that spaces on these courses are limited and subject to availability
• Each day of the course runs from 09:30 to 17:00
