Edinburgh Blacksmithing Taster Course

Embark on an innovative journey into the heart of metalworking with a blacksmithing experience in the scenic surroundings of Edinburgh. At Sandy's Forge, you'll be transported into the age-old craft of blacksmithing, where you'll learn the time-honored techniques of shaping and crafting steel.

During this engaging taster course, you’ll have the opportunity to manipulate raw steel into two unique pieces that you can proudly take home. Under the guidance of expert instructors, you'll develop your skills in forging and fabrication, experiencing the satisfying art of blacksmithing firsthand.

This course is perfect for beginners eager to explore a new hobby or for those looking to delve deeper into a fun and creative skill. So roll up your sleeves and prepare for a memorable day at the forge, filled with laughter, learning, and artistic expression!

What's Included

• A 4-hour introduction to blacksmithing
• Learn basic blacksmithing techniques; Upsetting, drawing, tapering, bending and punching
• Start by making a small item such as a bottle opener or hook
• For your main work of forge a fire poker or similar item of your choice
• Take home your unique hand-forged pieces
• All tools, materials, protective wear (safety glasses, apron) are provided
• You will form part of a small group of up to 3 participants for this experience

When Is It Available

• Fridays & Saturdays from 10:00-14:00 throughout the year
• Dates and session times are subject to availability

Suitable For

• Minimum age 17
• A good, general level of fitness is required

Spectators

• Not suitable for spectators

Anything Else

• Jeans, T-shirt and jumper are recommended (no fleeces, nylon etc)
• Sturdy foorwear should be worn
