Two-Day Axe Making Course

Guided by Spike, an experienced artisan and passionate blacksmith, you’ll gain insights into various techniques and tools needed to create a beautiful and functional axe. As you work with metal, you’ll discover the satisfaction of transforming raw materials into a stunning handmade piece.

The scenic backdrop of Quex Park adds to the experience, allowing you to soak in the beauty of your surroundings as you craft. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience, this course is designed to inspire awe and enhance your skills. By the end, not only will you leave with your own masterpiece, but you will also have a newfound appreciation for the ancient craft of blacksmithing.

What's Included

• A two day axe making course
• Welcome, introduction and safety briefing
• Learn about the ancient craft of axe making
• Over the course of two days you'll learn the basics of forging, the advanced techniques of punching and drifting the axe eye and isolating mass and steel movement
• Heat treat your axe head
• Refine the axe edge on the belt grinder
• Shape the axe handle and fit it to your axe
• Take your finished axe home with you
• You may form part of a small group on the day

• Courses operate across a Saturday and Sunday throughout the year
• Sessions start at 09:30 finishing at approximately 16:00
• Dates are subject to availability
• Due to popularity it is recommended you book 8-12 weeks in advance for this experience
